1. After you know the technical side of voice-over,  you are ready for the talent side.    The talent here is to talk to your audience and not just to your mike.

Talent.  Somebody else’s ability to accomplish a result, given to them by good fortune and nature.

Skill.  My ability to accomplish a result, developed and shaped through hard work and practice.

2. Watch the WMV file that you made at the end of the Clip Trimmer crib sheet.  Pick the most interesting segment of about one minute.

Pick the most interesting segment of your video. About a minute or so.  Pick someone that you know who might be interested in this part.

3. Imagine someone you know who might be interested in this segment.  Run the segment again. Talk aloud to the person you are imagining.  Use whatever gestures you feel comfortable with.  You may feel more comfortable standing.
4. Do the same thing again, but this time, turn on Audacity and catch the audio.  Listen to the audio you made.
5. Imagine an older person, like your grandmother.  Make another recording as you talk to this person.
6.  Listen to both audios as you watch the segment again. Compare them.  Can you tell from your speech which is which?
7.  Imagine someone who would not be interested in this segment. Do another audio: explain to that persons why you find it interesting.   This is a simple workout for the empathic part of your brain.  That's the part that you use to understand other people and adjust what you say and do to fit them.
8. Listen to the three audios as you watch the segment.  Pick one audio to use in your vid.  But don't use it yet.  You will learn something by picking.
9. Imagine the audience that you want to interest with your vid.  Are they like one of the people you imagined so far? If not, who do you know that is like your target audience?
10. If you feel you need more practice runs, do them and listen to the results.
11. Mix in sound effects and music.  Use the Project option in Audacity to import audio files.   FindSounds  A good source of sound effects.
Imported clips may have different rates. Audacity will mix them correctly.  Just don't copy from one track to another unless the bit rates match.

Podsafe offers music with permission to use in podcasts.
12. When you are satisfied with your audio, make audio files for the rest of your video.  Put them into the WMM timeline.  Make a movie file. Watch it a couple of times. VO Tech crib sheet
