Impulse Clipit
Impulsiveness:  I act first and regret it later.

I know that sometimes I should have waited.
But I don’t know that until too late to do any good

Too soon old.  Too late smart.

See:  Impulsiveness

Catch the cue

Start with a cue trap.  That can be a note pad, a deck of cards, or any convenient holder for pieces of paper.  Just make sure it is something you can carry around with you.  Print the cue trappers on the right and put them in your cue trap.

Whenever you think you did something impulsively, answer the cue trappers.  Make notes to use later.  .

Don’t worry about impulsiveness.  You are on the right track to take charge of it.

Print these cue trappers.

What were the cues that triggered the action?

How did I feel when I got those cues?
What did I say to myself when I got those cues?
What options did I think about before I took action?
What options could I have thought about?
What option did I actually choose?

Now that I think back, what would have been a better option?

Your Engineer
Organized

When you have trapped a few cues, look over your collection.  Can you predict when those cues will appear again?

If you know a date, mark it on your calendar.

If you can predict some other way, put it on your ToDo list.

If you can’t predict, keep collecting.

When you can predict those cues in advance, decide what you want to do when you meet them again.

When you are ready to decide in advance, go back and look at the notes in your cue trap.  Especially the answers to these questions:

What options could I have thought about?

Now that I think back, what would have been a better option?
