What? Put your time on work with the highest payoff. |
Medical triage: Sorting and allocating aid on the basis of need for or likely benefit Time Triage: Sorting and allocating effort on the basis of need or likely benefit. |
Why? If you don’t have time to do everything, spend your time to get the best returns. |
Do: Half-hour work units. At every checkpoint, ask yourself: What can I do in the next half-hour that would give the best payoff? Pick the option you think best. Set a checkpoint that matches your time. Go! |

Review: Half-hour later: Did you get that payoff you expected? Yes. Feel smug. Any time you study and sense the payoff, you are ahead of the game. No. Play detective. Did you expect too much? Was your expectation so vague that you can’t tell whether you got it done not? Was the job harder than you expected? Was the job easier that you expected? |
If you don’t get payoff from the job you did, you get the payoff from figuring out how to do it better next time.. |
