How to get into Second Life without really trying ...

You will find many links on this site that begin with Go to ... 

These links will try to take you to the location in second life.  If you don't have  have an account, you get an offer to sign up for a free account.   

To get on Second Life, you will need to download and install software on your computer. An entry level account is free indefinitely.

Basic things you need to know to get started in SL:
1. How to talk to people around you. 
2. How to find people and talk to them
