Chop big jobs into joblets A project is a unit of work that has a goal, a start, and a finish. A joblet is just a small project, one that will fit in an hour or so. It might be a sub-project, part of a larger project. But it still has a goal, a start, and a finish. The term project sounds big and intimidating for some people. A mini-project should be no more intimidating that Minnie Mouse. So people who find projects intimidating should feel comfortable with mini-projects. Or you can call them joblets. How can a joblet be a tool? The joblet in your head is the tool: To break a big project into bite-size pieces, with bite-sized sub-goals. To fit big jobs into your schedule. One joblet at a time. To turn your long term goals into concrete short-term goals that the action parts of your brain can work with. To connect a long-term goal to a sub-goal you can reach in the here and now. To evaluate your progress toward a long-term goal. To make mid-course adjustments on long-term goals. To celebrate small successes. |
