What are you selling?

There is really nothing to sell here.  The basic information comes from research that has already been done.  We think we have packaged the stuff in a way that will make it interesting and useful.  But we can't sell interesting and useful.  By the time you decide whether this site is interesting and useful, you will already know what it has to say.

We have put in ads and some links to books or DVD's relevant to the content of the pages.  We hope these will cover the cost of the site.  But we’re academics.  We don't have to be practical.

We do cognitive engineering.  Maybe this site will suggest useful ways to do research in cognitive engineering.    Maybe it will interest some students in cognitive engineering.   Maybe it will help us make the stuff more interesting and useful.   Maybe then we’ll put out a self-improvement book.

Maybe then we'll be selling something.  But that is then.  This is now.

The Thinkerer's Guide to Homework

The Head Office

Un:  What are you selling?  A question worthy of a thinkerer.

Whys Guy:  A thinkerer always asks “Why am I getting this offer?”

Empath:  People usually expect to benefit from what they do.

Engineer:  Especially when it takes effort and money.

Shudoff:  People should not expect to get something for nothing.

Vulcan:  There must be an objective.  There must be a goal.

Un:  But it need not be selling.

Explorer:  Exploring is also a goal.

Engineer:  Exploring may be a step to another goal.

Vulcan:  Exploring may be a step toward choosing a goal.

Explorer You find out about the goal.

Engineer:  You find out about how to get there.

Canter:  Or you find out you can't get there.

Vulcan:  You choose between can and can't.

Explorer:  You may find a goal that fits you.

Un:  Something you can get your whole head behind.

Hunter: Something your Hunter will hunt.

Engineer: Something you can plan for.

Explorer:  Something you know how to plan for.

Engineer:  It may be of value to other people.

Un:  Or it may be of value only to you.

Empath:  If it is of value to other people, you may sell it.

Explorer:  If it is of value only to you, you may learn from it.

Success lies not merely in reaching your goals,
but in how the pursuit changes you
